This is my final post as a Verizon Voice for Boomers.   When I started writing for this program, I was hoping to be able to add value to people with dementia and/or those that care for them by highlighting products that ease our day.  During the past several months I’ve reviewed both products and services offered by Verizon and I have to say I was surprised at the variety of technology tools they have to support us.

Here are some of the past posts I wrote:

Today I went to one of the local Verizon stores here in Maplewood, Minnesota and I was amazed at the layout, design and product display.  Verizon’s, Paul Xiong helped me remove the data off the phone without a hitch.  He was so kind and pleasant he made the process easy and explained the philosophy about the new store layout.  It is all about customer service and keeping things simple for the those they serve. The rest of the Verizon staff   was welcoming and helpful as well.  In fact all, even some customers allowed me to take pictures of them in the new store.

I highly recommend you check out the new look and services Verizon has to offer.  Check out the photos below.

I just have to tell you I am loving using my Verizon Droid Razr HD for driving directions! As a caregiver with a busy schedule I really appreciate the nice big screen for my aging and tired eyes.  It also speaks clearly and gives me plenty of notice for turns. Plus it hasn’t taken me down a wrong path yet. Getting me to my destinations on a timely basis, really helps reduce my stress.  SWEET!

In addition, I’m learning to use the “Fitbit” APP.  It’s kind of spooky to find out how little I move! Although I am constantly busy, so much of what I do is by phone or using the internet.   I am finding I sit way too much and really have to become so inactive compared to what I used to be. I guess I knew this was happening, but when you have a reminder counting off your steps or lack of it kind of slaps you in the face and says, get up a move girl!  although I love my work, I have found I have become a slave to my computer… Now it’s time to find some balance. Thank you Fitbit and Verizon!  This little gadget can help the caregiver, take care of them self.

Last, I have to tell you a short story about my mom today.  I brought her to an activity where a “professional Whistler” performed.  I didn’t even know there was such a  person!  She seemed to enjoy it and yelled out a few comments to the performers questions he was posing to the audience.  In addition, she was wiggling and dancing to the music.  She even hummed a few bars to two different songs.    These types of reactions are pretty rare for mom these days so this was a great treat!

I Love when Technology Eases

Care Partners Roles

Pandora APP Great Tool

For Alzheimer’s & Dementia

mom sleepingmom listening and contentI went to visit my Mom today at the nursing home. It was nap time and she was resting, but I had brought her a hot fudge sundae so I asked her if she wanted it it.  A big smile appeared on her face and so I pushed the button on her bed to raise her into the sitting position.

I figured as log as I was getting mom up we might as well have some music playing.  Mom loves music, even now in her end stages.  I pulled up my Pandora APP on my new Droid Razr Maxx HD phone and found some Frank Sinatra songs, Moms’ favorite.  The music sounded wonderful and mom got a big smile on her face as she listened and occasionally tapped her fingers to the music.

As usual, the hot fudge sundae was a big hit too!

I just loved how easy it was to use Pandora on my Droid Razr Maxx HD.  The sound was terrific, but even more important to me was the smile on my moms face!
