Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio –

Steve’s Journey with Dementia & Alan Arnette on Awareness

This is a great program with Steve Ponath who shares his personal journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

Today we talked to Steve Ponath, a man recently diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.  Steve will turn 50 years old this September.  He has had memory problems for about 2 and a half years but never really thought much about them until October of 2010. Then he started making the same mistakes frequently.and everything changed… Listen to his story as he shares tips with us as to how we can help someone with dementia by adjusting how we do things.

You can reach Steve on Facebook.  He goes by pony5alive

Alan Arnette, Mountaineer, Advocate and Speaker joins us for the 2nd half of the show to update us on his expeditions for Alzheimer’s and his speaking tour to raise awareness.

http://www.alanarnette.com

In addition we had two callers both advocates for Alzheimer’s disease.  The first caller, was Tyler Jury who is riding his bike to raise awareness for dementia.  You can find out more details about what Tyler has been up to the past two years as well as their upcoming ride at:

For information on their ride two years ago visit

www.fijisacrossamerica.com

This year’s you can visit

www.bike4alz.org

The second caller was Lynda Everman who is helping to promote the semipostal stamp.  Lynda sent me the following information that the real hero behind the stamp is Kathy Siggins.  She was the force behind the 2008 commemorative stamp which, sadly, is no longer available.  Both Lynda and Kathy on FaceBook  so if you would like to connect with them please do so.  Alan Arnette and Lynda have dubbed this HELP STAMP OUT ALZHEIMER’S!

Please help.  Last May resolutions were introduced to create a fundraising (aka “semipostal”) stamp (like the Breast Cancer research stamp) that would raise money for Alzheimer’s research. Please call the US Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to speak to your Congressman and two Senators (Check the link below to identify who they are.) and tell them that you support the semipostal stamp and want them to sign on as a co-sponsor to H.Res. 351 (House) and S. Res. 176 (Senate). Please share this with ALL of your friends! Together we CAN make a difference!
