Maria L. Maccecchini, is the Founder, President, CEO and Executive Board Member of Annovis Bio. Maria devoted her life and 30-year career to the study of neurodegenerative diseases and their possible treatments. She founded Annovis in 2008, which was her second biotechnology company. She did one postdoc at Caltech and one at the Roche Institute of Immunology, her PhD in biochemistry is from the Biocenter of Basel with a two-year visiting fellowship at The Rockefeller University.

Cheng Fang, is the Sr. VP of Research & Development at Annovis Bio. Cheng is an accomplished neuroscientist with more than a decade of experience in neurodegenerative diseases, with broad scientific knowledge and hands-on experience. Prior to joining Annovis, she held various positions as scientific solution consultant with Clarivate Analytics, business development manager for Coriell Institute for Medical Research and an assistant professor at Boston University.

LBDA Webinar: Exercise and Dementia

Please join LBDA for our upcoming webinar on “Exercise and Dementia,” presented by Dr. Jeffrey M. Burns. Dr. Burns will discuss the evidence that physical exercise is beneficial for the brain and promotes healthy brain aging.
Additionally, Dr. Burns will examine the studies supporting the idea that exercise may be a viable prevention strategy and therapeutic approach for treating neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies.

Jeffrey M. Burns, MD, MS is the Edward H. Hashinger Associate Professor of Neurology and the Associate Director of the University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Center. Dr. Burns also directs the Clinical and Translational Science Unit and is the Associate Director of the Heartland Unit for Neuroscience Trials.

Dr. Burns graduated from the University of Notre Dame and attended medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Burns completed his residency in neurology at the University of Virginia followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at the Alzheimer Disease Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis. In 2009, Dr. Burns completed his Masters of Science in Clinical Research at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

Neurology Now has a great article featuring Michael J. Fox on Parkinson’s disease.  As we know people with dementia are just like the rest of us and are not limited to one disease or illness in their life time.  I thought some of you might be interested int his article.  Neurology Now is a great source of information.  I personally recommend signing up for their subscription.
