Our Host, Lori La Bey will be talking with Lisa Peterson is a Nationally Board Certified and Oregon Licensed Music Therapist with 30 years experience working with people with dementia. She has a passion for reminding and empowering all people, especially caregivers, to access the power of music for their well-being.
Dementia and the Arts is an Educational Panel where all levels of artists and all types are welcome. Our goal is to elevate panelists work and ability to create beauty in many forms. They will share examples of various types of art they participate in, how, and why they started, what they have learned, and what they personally get out of making art. Panelists, do not have to attend all sessions.

Thursday, December 6th, Lori La Bey host of Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio, will talk with Kaylee Tilton, a Music Therapist and Joe Kaufman, an intern with Aegis Living while completing his BA in music therapy. Both work at Aegis Living. Join us and learn how and why people react to music. You will find out how music therapy is different from our everyday use and enjoyment of music, along with their personal experiences that pulled them to become music therapists. Kaylee and Joe will explain how the use music therapy to improve lives and will give us some real life examples of its effect on people of all ages and stages of life.

I am so excited to share with you another ditty of my Mother in her end stages of Alzheimer’s and the possibilities of connections. I was blessed to have come into my life a woman by the name of Melissa Hirokawa, the owner of Living Spirit Therapy and a board-certified music therapist. Melissa took time to show me her wears as a professional, and even with my Mother in her end stages of Alzheimer’s, she was able to bring Mom out of her shell and bring my her Joy.
