Our Host, Lori La Bey talks with Lisa Ronke from Watertown, South Dakota. She worked in Sales, Marketing, Event Planning and most recently retired as a Project Manager/Paralegal from a local law firm. Needless to say she was a good organizer, but when her Husband Ed was diagnosed with Early onset ALZ at age 51 she found dementia was not something you could organize once and put into a file or a drawer.  Dementia has a mind of it’s own. Ed’s lived 6 ½ years and passed away at the age 57, on Nov. 28, 2021.  Today, Lisa will share insight about the disease and how the life-altering, dream-shattering diagnosis affected their lives.

The 24-Hour Rule: Living with Alzheimer’s

The 24-Hour Rule: Living with Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio

Thursday, December 7th, 2017

2pm EST, 1pm CST, 12pm MST, 11am PST and 7pm London

Today, Lori La Bey’s guest on Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio is an amazing woman with not only a wonderful heart but vision to help change the world.

In 2012, at age 56, Cheryl Levin-Folio’s husband, Michael, was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s. Three years later, she retired to become his full-time, primary caregiver. Cheryl is now on a mission to help eradicate dementia, raise awareness, and help others like her negotiate the often treacherous path of care taking. She and her husband Michael face the disease with a positive attitude and proactive strategies for living with the Alzheimer’s.

In the absence of finding a book to inspire Cheryl, she decided to keep a notebook of tips and strategies she picked up along the way. The result is her book The 24-Hour Rule: Living with Alzheimer’s.

Push Research Forward – Join the A-List

We’ve all wrestled with a guilt trip – aging parents or a sick spouse who fear that we will not respect their wishes to stay at home. Statistics reaffirm that seventy-five percent of families try to do just that, despite the physical and emotional challenges of 24/7 dementia care. Often families turn to outside professional home care support.

Please take our A-LIST needs assessment survey and let us know your opinions on paid nursing support.

Decisions about care are deeply personal for those living with dementia and their families. I know from experience that there are no easy answers. Whether you are living with dementia, are a current or past caregiver, or just concerned about your memory, please take this survey and let us know what matters to you when it comes to professional home care.

24/7 care is often central to the Alzheimer’s experience. Every one of us facing this challenge – patients and care partners alike – strives to honor and help our loved ones live well with dementia. Home care providers and policy makers want to know what matters most to the A-LIST.
