Lori La Bey, host of Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio chats with Vince Zangaro, founder of Alzheimer’s Music Fest regarding its expanded vision and his journey with his father who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease over 10 years ago at the age of 62.  Vince was only 29 at the time and little did he know his world would completely change.

I was honored to be part of the Alzheimer’s Music Fest several years ago and had the chance to meet Vince and see this amazing man in action.

We were lucky to have Vince Zangaro Alzheimer’s  founder of Alzheimer’s Music Fest with us.  His journey started over 10 years ago with his father. His dad was 62 when diagnosed, and Vince was only 29 when his world completely changed. It was a difficult time for both of them to say the least.

vince w dad

As his dad’s disease progressed, Vince shares how he has evolved into a better man. Vince like many had friends suggesting he put his Dad in a home, but he made a promise to his mother before she died at age 55 that he would take care of him.

Vince talks openly about his difficult decision to Give up or Grow up!  Thank God for all of us he Decided to Grow UP and make a difference, not only for his father but for other families who are struggling on their own journey with dementia.
Vince founded Alzheimer’s Music Fest to help others be able to care for their loved ones at home.

Inspired by families who provide care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease/dementia and for those affected with the disease, The Alzheimer’s Music Fest produces and presents a festival of musicians with diverse musical backgrounds who come together and celebrate the family caregiver. Our goal is to raise funds for those families with limited financial resources, increase awareness about Alzheimer’s disease/dementia, and create a community of supports for these families. Alzheimer’s Music Fest has partnered with Caring Together in Hope, a 501(c)(3) non-profit to ensure net funds raised are used to support Alzheimer’s disease/dementia families who care for their loved one at home.

Our second guest will be Atlanta musician Vince Zangaro who is a man with a musical mission. After his dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Zangaro left his corporate job to care for him. The lessons within this dynamic have re-inspired Zangaro’s love for music. Come and learn what he is up to and how you can participate and help his cause to improve life for those dealing with dementia.

Pamela Van Ahn, is Executive Director of Caring together in Hope and is supported by her siblings and an Uncle who serve as its Board members. Caring Together in Hope is a 501(c)(3) organization that strives to alleviate a portion of the family caregiver’s role by assisting with financial help in respite care. The foundation is dedicated to being an advocate to those families who care for a loved one at home with a diagnosis of AD/dementia. We share our knowledge as former caregivers, leverage the services currently offered by existing organizations, and deliver interim care services in the AD/dementia client’s home. In addition, the foundation is actively involved in many local initiatives that raise awareness about the personal, physical, emotional, spiritual and financial challenges that come with a person with dementia.
