Early or Younger Onset Dementia – Planning for the future

Early or Younger Onset Dementia – Planning for the future

Planning early makes it easier for someone with younger onset dementia to manage their financial, legal and medical affairs now and in the future.

If you have been diagnosed with younger onset dementia, it is important to make important decisions while you still can and while you are legally competent to sign any documents.

Things to think about include:

  • your living arrangements into the future
  • who can have access to your financial accounts
  • having joint signatures on all financial accounts
  • arranging when and how you will access your finances
  • talking to a financial adviser
  • sorting out superannuation, health and income insurance
  • writing or updating your will

If you have been diagnosed with dementia, it’s important to nominate a trusted person to manage your affairs in the future. You can do this through an Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA).

All of the above topics are further outlined in our diagram below and addressed via our smart phone App called YourLifeTalks – by choosing the Your Life Wishes Conversation.

Unlock the Benefits of ‘Life’ Storytelling:
Through the power of ‘Life Story’ telling and shared experiences, ‘YourLifeTalks can help overcome feelings of social isolation, providing positive and engaging experiences via our Smart Phone App or our physical ‘playing’ type cards.

Both the App & our Cards contain 50 engaging questions to help ‘kick-start’ interactions, in English, Spanish, Polish, Chinese & Vietnamese with more languages coming soon.

Ideal for all Veterans, Retirees, Seniors or Aged Care settings, family groups or even as a singular activity to counteract periods of ‘lockdown or self-isolation’.

Via our phone App, participants can simply ‘speak’ their answers to our 50 questions, directly into the phone microphone and our Voice-to-Text software will transcribe their responses into the written word and save the result.

To edit your responses simply return to the numbered question, position your cursor where you wish to make your amendment, then either ‘speak’ or ‘type’ your corrections and your responses will be updated & saved.

Lori La Bey of Alzheimer’s Speaks Honored as One of Oprah’s “Health Hero’s”

A Big Thank You to Oprah and Her Team

I can’t put into words how humbled and honored I am to be named one of fourteen people, picked by Oprah and her team as a 2018, “Health Hero.” Being mentioned twice in one year in the “O” magazine is just down right amazing.  Last time, it was for the Memory Cafe’s.  This time, for Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio and Dementia Chats educational video interviews with people who are living with a diagnosis of dementia.

I want everyone involved with the radio show and/or Dementia Chats to know I share this recognition with them.  Everything Alzheimer’s Speaks does is about raising voice and collaboration for the betterment of the worlds dementia care.  So if you have been a guest on Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio,  an expert on Dementia Chats, someone who has joined the conversation by calling in, using the chat box, emailing, texting, using twitter, responding to or sharing a blog post, please know none of this would be possible without you.  From the bottom of my heart I “THANK YOU!”

For this article, they sent me to a 4 hour photo shot… what an experience!  I have a new appreciation for models, photographers and make up artists.  I need to also thank Chad Holder the Photographer and Terra Hinrichs the Hair and Makeup Artist.  What a great team to work with.

Below is the article which featured my work, but please check out the full article with the other thirteen Health Hero’s.
