Today we will be talking with Rosanne Corcoran on Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio.  She cared for her mother over a 12-year span.  Rosanne started as a stealth caregiver, then she became a full-time caregiver, and then she became an in-home, sandwich caregiver for her mother’s final 6 years.

Rosanne created Daughterhood The Podcast: For Caregivers after experiencing first-hand the stress and isolation caregiving brings, along with the lack of meaningful resources for caregivers. The podcast cultivates a dynamic group of subject matter experts to help listeners navigate these uncharted, and many times, tumultuous waters.

We are live today so call in and join the conversation!

Watch the Video Interview Below

Our Host, Lori La Bey will be talking with Deanna Vigliotta and Laurie Gredlein with Seni, whose parent company is TZMO who produces and sells premium adult incontinence products. Also joining us are Marisa Biserna, Linda Panarella, and Robin Rountree all in leadership roles with Senior Helpers. Linda also works for Town Square Adult Day Enrichment Centers.

Deanna Vigliotta is the National Sales Manager for Seni, known for their premium adult incontinence products.  She has an extensive 30-year background in healthcare sales management.  Deanna joined Seni, in early 2019, to help expand the Seni brand in the US market by educating both consumers and senior living communities about the importance of choosing high quality fully breathable products.

Laurie Gredlein has been working in the healthcare and the senior living industry field for over 15yrs.  She is an Account Executive for Seni in the Northeast region and resides in NJ.

Marisa Biserna is an RN who has worked in home care and hospice for more than 25 years.   She is the newest member to the Senior Helpers leadership team, overseeing the operations of (3) Senior Helpers locations in New Jersey.  Marisa’s mother lives with Alzheimer’s, and she is committed to dignity in aging.

Linda Panarella has over 15 years’ experience managing personalized care to seniors, and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and a PAC Certified Independent Trainer. She is the Director of Business Development for Senior Helpers and Town Square Adult Day Enrichment Centers. Linda serves as a consultant for the development and construction of the first Town Squares in NJ.

The care her mother received from Senior Helpers was a game-changer and made a huge impact on her quality of life. After her mother passed away, Robin chose to leave her broadcasting career to help other family members on their caregiving journeys by working for Senior Helpers. Robin also hosts the podcast “Informed Aging” and is also an advisory team member of Central Florida Lewy Body.

MAUDE’S AWARDS IS TAKING APPLICATIONS NOW & SEEKS TO ACKNOWLEDGE INNOVATIVE CARE FOR DEMENTIA

The Third Annual Maude’s Awards program is here! Maude’s Awards was developed to gather and share innovations that will enrich the quality of life for persons living with Alzheimer’s disease, and related dementias, and their care partners. For more information and to access the awards application, please visit www.maudesawards.org.

Maude’s Awards was created in 2019 by Richard Ferry in honor of his beloved wife of 64 years. In 2013, Maude was diagnosed with dementia and Richard has continued their loving journey as a tireless advocate to discover and share innovations that speak to the challenges and needs of persons living with dementia, and their care partners

Maude’s Awards annually makes up to eight awards – three $25,000 awards to organizations and up to five $5,000 awards to individuals – for innovations excelling in one of four categories of care (listed below). As an individual, you do not need to be a dementia care professional to qualify – we are interested in how family caregivers and persons with dementia are making life better for themselves.

Making Connections

Awarded to the individual or organization that has created meaningful opportunities for persons living with dementia to connect with the people and world around them.  Examples: Creative arts programs, intergenerational opportunities, community service or advocacy projects.

Cultivating Health

Awarded to the individual or organization that has provided exceptional care or education that supports the long-term physical health of persons living with dementia.  Examples: exercise, nutrition and diet, new or more accessible health protocols.

Supporting Care Partners

Awarded to the individual or organization that has provided impactful education, training or support for care partners of persons living with dementia.  Examples: adaptive clothing or equipment, respite and/or emotional support, educational tools, ease of access to medical care and social services.

Treating by Design

Awarded to the individual or organization that has significantly improved the living spaces and/or mobility of persons living with dementia.  Examples include physical environments and impact on quality of life, accessible transportation, and ease/safety of wheelchair transfer.

These are awards for achievement, as opposed to grants for future programs.  The intent of Maude’s Awards is to reward programs that have demonstrated success.  The nominated program must have been active in 2021 or the year prior. If the program is currently active or recurring, it must have completed one year of operation, or enough time to demonstrate success.

The 2021 Awards Recipients were announced in September and can be found here – 2021 Awardees – Maude’s Awards.

2022 applications will be accepted through May 16 at 6pm PT.

Our Host, Lori La Bey will be talking with Lewis Hornby is an award-winning 27-year-old inventor and designer, driven by a passion for social good. While studying Innovation Design Engineering at Imperial College London and the Royal College of Arts, he worked on a range of social impact projects, but his focus was diverted in 2018, when his grandma, who had dementia, was hospitalized with dehydration.

Lewis spent a month in her care home to try find a solution to her lack of water intake, which resulted in the invention of Jelly Drops. With the backing of the Alzheimer Society’s Innovation Accelerator Program, a range of prestigious awards and widespread global attention, he spent 18 months

researching and developing the product, before making Jelly Drops available to the public in the UK in 2020.

Lewis continues to spread awareness of the risks of dehydration in the elderly and those with dementia, having told his grandma’s story on a range of global platforms. Lewis holds Masters Degrees from University of Bristol, the Royal College of Arts and Imperial College London.

Lewis is the recipient of a wide range of awards, including the Dementia Care Innovation Award, the Snowdon Award for Disability and the Meaning-Centred Design Award. He currently leads the continued research and development of Jelly Drops as Chief Product Officer.
