Filling The Gap For Children Who Have Parents With Young Onset Dementia.
Our host, Lori La Bey will be talking with Diana Shulla Cose the Founding Executive Director, of Lorenzoās House, and Bree Ruge the Lead of Programs & Development at Lorenzo’s House. Also joining us are three young adults who are involved with Lorenzoās House – William Dean, Shylah Thiara, and Jessica.
Diana Shulla Cose is the Founding Executive Director, of Lorenzoās House. Diana has been the primary care partner to her husband and mother. She is a true visionary, entrepreneur, strategist, innovator, and proven fundraiser. After her husband was diagnosed with Younger-Onset Alzheimerās she recognized a massive care and connection gap for younger families and in 2021 founded Lorenzoās House, a non-profit social impact startup designed to empower families everywhere living with Younger-Onset dementia.
Diana leveraged her past career of over 25 years as Co-Founder & President of a network of public schools in Chicago, scaling from 40 students and 2 teachers to 2,300 students and over 250 staff across 5 schools – Diana brings deep experience and insight to her new venture in this new space.
Bree Ruge, Certified Dementia Practitioner, is a certified Dementia Friend by Dementia Friendly America, and the Lead of Programs & Development at Lorenzo’s House. She has the privilege of building programs and relationships with youth and care partners daily. Bree has been personally touched by Alzheimerās in her family which gave her knowledge and insights to walk alongside families living with Younger-Onset dementia. Bree was a co-creator, developing the Dementia Friendly Initiative in 4 neighborhoods in the Northside of Chicago.
William Dean, who goes by Will, is 23 years old and is from Wales in the United Kingdom. Will’s mother lives with young onset dementia, and this challenge has inspired him to become an advocate for change through fundraising and raising awareness.
Shylah Thiaraās father was diagnosed with Younger-Onset Alzheimer’s in his mid-50s, and since then she became an advocate and blogger. Shylah spreads awareness and tackles the misconceptions associated with Younger-Onset Alzheimer’s disease by sharing her journey of navigating her father’s diagnosis.
Jessica Christensen is a 13-year-old from Utah. Diana described Jessica as a bright ray of light for this world who has thoughtful perspectives and inspires many, wise beyond her years, and is a youth leader at Lorenzoās House. Jessicaās father was diagnosed with young-onset Alzheimerās disease and she has been with Lorenzoās House for about a year and a half and is a youth leader at Lorenzoās House.

Richard and Maude Ferry were one of many couples who have lived what is often called the āAmerican Dreamā. They have walked a blessed and rewarding journey together, from their beginnings in a small, Midwestern college town, to community leaders in Los Angeles and entrepreneurs in a global business. Richard is the Chairman of the Richard and Maude Ferry Foundation. He co-founded Korn Ferry International in 1969, and for more than three decades was instrumental in establishing the firm as the worldās premier provider of executive human capital solutions.
Quentin Orem, Executive Director at the Ferry Foundation which supports various causes like Maudeās Awards, Maudeās Ventures, and the Memory Hub to name a few. Quentin is a partner with Social Venture Partners which is a philanthropic organization. Quentin is also on the Board of Directors for Cristo Rey Seattle and Advisory Board Member at SCU Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education.
Marilyn Raichle, Executive Director of Maudesā Awards. She became a care partner for her parents, both of whom were developing Alzheimerās Disease. In 2015, inspired by her motherās newfound artistic ability, she founded The Art of Alzheimerās, celebrating the creativity of persons living with dementia and the power of the creative arts to enrich and empower their lives.
Marigrace Becker is the Program Manager of Community Education and Impact at the UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center (MBWC) and the Director of the Memory Hub, a new community center operated by MBWC that offers supportive, educational, and social programs for people with memory loss and their families.
Maudeās Awards mission is to enrich the quality of life for persons living with Alzheimerās disease and related dementias and their care partnersācelebrating and inspiring innovative practices of care and sharing these practices with the wider dementia care community. Individuals can win $5,000 and organizations $25,000.
Applications for Maude’s Awards 2023 Close May 16th
Maudeās Ventureās mission is to invest in people who want to build new ways to meet the needs of the dementia community. They are passionate about investing in people who are innovating care for individuals with memory loss. Their goal is to advance care for those living with Alzheimerās while we wait for a cure. Every year they offer seed funding of $50,000 – $100,000 for individuals, nonprofits, and for-profits to help them develop new ideas to improve the lives of caregivers and people living with dementia.

The Memory Hub is a Place for Dementia-Friendly Community, Collaboration, and Impact! They bring people, programs, and partners together. The Memory Hub operates as a vibrant dementia-specific community center, collaborative workspace, and training center. It is spearheaded by the UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center (MBWC) and located on the campus of founding partner the Frye Art Museum. The Memory Hub welcomes visitors year-round to explore what it means to live well with dementia.

She began her career as a Dining Room Manager at Crestwood Manor and moved to Leisure Park where she was the Independent Living Administrator for 15 years.
Laurie Gredlein has been working in the healthcare/senior living field for over 20yrs ā from marketing for a large pharmaceutical company to working in various long-term care settings. She is currently an Account Executive for Seni in the Northeast region and resides in New Jersey. She is passionate about educating people on the importance of using high-quality incontinence products, as well as helping those in need.
