Quality of Life in Memory Care. What Does “Good” Look Like? Part 1 of 4

Listen Live or Listen at Your Convenience Thursday – April 13th, 2023 – 2pm EST, 1pm CST, 12pm MST, 11am PST & 7pm London GMT, 9pm South Africa SAST, and on the April 14th at 6am in Australia AEDT

Watch the Video Interview Below

Artis Senior Living and Seni

Our Host, Lori La Bey is joined by Deena Coffee with Artis Senior Living, and Deanna Vigliotta and Laurie Gredlein with Seni as they discuss what “quality of life and good care” actually looks like in a Memory Care setting. All three of these ladies have phenomenal experience in healthcare, so we know this episode will be loaded with nuggets!

Deena Coffee is a Certified Dementia Practitioner and the Director of Community Relations for Artis Senior Living of Eatontown. Deena has been in the Healthcare Industry for the last 23 years. She began her career as a Dining Room Manager at Crestwood Manor and moved to Leisure Park where she was the Independent Living Administrator for 15 years.

Laurie Gredlein has been working in the healthcare/senior living field for over 20yrs – from marketing for a large pharmaceutical company to working in various long-term care settings.  She is currently an Account Executive for Seni in the Northeast region and resides in New Jersey.  She is passionate about educating people on the importance of using high-quality incontinence products, as well as helping those in need.

Deanna Vigliotta has an extensive 30-year healthcare sales and sales management background.  She spent many years of her career working in the Radiology Imaging space, where she built relationships with healthcare professionals, and provided related healthcare products & ancillary services.

Deanna joined the Seni sales team to better educate consumers, geriatricians, neurologists, skilled Nursing Facilities – SNF, Assisted Living Facilities – ALF, Home Health Care, and Memory Care communities about the importance of choosing high-performing adult incontinence products to improve the quality of life for incontinent people as well as those that care for them.   In doing so she moved quickly into the role of

National Sales Manager with Seni, supporting her teammates and Seni’s clients, to shift the mindset in the USA from adult incontinence products being viewed as a disposable commodity to high-performing incontinence products being viewed as a critical component to the continuum of care.

Dementia Map Global Resource Directory – Connecting Families & Professionals to Services, Products, Tools, & Events

Monday April 25th – 2pm EST, 1pm CST, 12pm MST, 11am PST & 7pm London GMT, 9pm South Africa SAST, and on the April 26th at 6am in Australia AEDT

Watch the Video Interview Below

Today’s show is going to be a bit different. After Lori La Bey introduces her guests, she will be passing her role as interviewer over to Eilon Caspi, as we dive into Dementia Map Global Resource Directory.

Eilon Caspi is a colleague and friend whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years. Eilon is a Gerontologist & an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Connecticut.  He also has cofacilitated Dementia chats with me for years.  Eilon recently published a wonderful book called the Understanding and Preventing Harmful Interactions Between Residents with Dementia.

Dave Wiederrich and I, our cofounders of Dementia Map.  In addition, he is also the founder and operator of Memory Cafe Directory, which he started in 2016 when he realized how difficult it was to locate on. Memory Cafe Directory now has over 1,000 listings in five countries.

For anyone who is new to Alzheimer’s Speaks here is a brief background on Loir La Bey.  Her Mother lived with dementia for 30 years and this journey changed both their lives. Like many Lori was a frustrated daughter looking for services, products, tools and support and she found very little. So, Lori decided to do something about it and in 2009, started Alzheimer’s Speaks an advocacy group and media outlet making an international impact providing education and support for those dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Our Host, Lori La Bey will be talking with Dr. Joy Poskozim.  Everyone calls her Dr. Joy, and you will see why during our conversation.  I wish Dr. Joy was located in my area.  She is so knowledgeable, kind, and upbeat.  You will feel her passion for her work.

Dr. Joy has been providing dental care to Alzheimer’s patients for over ten years all over Chicagoland while maintaining a brick and mortar practice in the city of Chicago, called Joyful Dental Care.  She also does house calls!  How sweet is that. Dr. Joy loves educating nursing home and memory care staff; which also includes any and all senior housing communities.  She really understands the importance of oral care for those who cannot communicate.

After receiving multiple requests to formally continue to highlight the artwork of those living with dementia, The Arts & Dementia Educational Panel will formally launch this November. All levels of artists and all types of art are welcome. Our goal is to elevate panelists work and ability to create beauty in many forms. They will share examples of various types of art they participate in, how, and why they started, what they have learned, and what they personally get out of making art. Panelists, do not have to attend all sessions.
