Teenagers’ Poem About Alzheimer’s –
This poem is written by a young gal by the name of Jordan, who I believe we will be hearing a lot from in the future. Jordan lives with her mother and her Grandmother who has Alzheimer’s disease. This poem, just cracks the surface and there is so much more we need to hear from this brave and powerful young lady. One who is on a mission to Shift Our Dementia Care Culture for Teens and their Families.
After you read Jordan’s poem please check out The Purple Rain Project. Jordan will also be on Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio on Jan 23rd. I hope you can join the conversation! The show starts at 11am EST, 10am CST, 8am PST, and 4pm London with our first guest Sherri Snelling of “A Cast of Caregivers – Celebrity Stories to Help You Prepare to Care.” Jordan will be our second guest at 12pm EST, 11am CST, 9am PST, and 5pm London time. Here is Jordan’s poem.
I love her very much, she is my angel.
No, she has not left me for the Man in the sky
but she has been driving on a road, a never ending road.
A road with all of her memories flying past her.
jumps out of the car,
running after them,
and then realizing she’s lost.
Forgot where she is,
forgetting who she is and has forgotten her daughter, son, 50 year lover
and me, her granddaughter.
I see her alone, walking . As fast as I can getting close
and closer to her screaming “are you alright?”
With a blank face staring back at me,
she whispers, “I can’t talk to strangers,”
Then walks away.
Meet Jordon and her Grandma
