It was with great pleasure and surprise I received these wonderful postcards, thanking me for my work with the Memory Cafes. I do have to clarify though, that in no way have I done this work alone! My wonderful colleagues at Arthur’s Memory Cafe (previously known as J. Arthur’s Memory Cafe), our founding partners: Arthur’s Residential Care, ACR Healthcare Group, The Alzheimer’s Research Center, Health Partners and The Minnesota Memory Project have all been involved in the development and expansion of the Memory Cafes.
I believe it is was the wonderful article Gail Rosenblum from the Star Tribune, did on Arthur’s Memory Cafe which triggered these postcards. If you haven’t read the article I encourage you to do so now. Gail captured the essence of our group and how beneficial these gatherings are. In fact, the response to the article was so great, we had 16 new people attend our very next meeting and now have two groups! Our new members averaged a drive of 45-60 minutes one way, which shows you the need of these gatherings.
Maybe, just maybe you will you will be inspired to start a gratitude initiative like Postcards Underground and make someones day; or if you would like information on how to start up your own Memory Cafe I would be glad to assist you!
Today, J. Arthur’s Memory Cafe had the Honor of Several Visitors.
We had two new couple join our group. Judy George of Mindful Movement taught us some t’ai chi chih which is the meditative art of movement and healing, John Bird and John Harrison of The Living Tree a new video legacy company with an amazing new tool to capture joy, history and the relationships we all cherish in life. Gail Rosenblum, a reporter with the Star Tribune also came out and spent over two hours with us.
Please take the time to read the article Gail wrote as you will see the insights and the beauty these memory Cafes have to offer those dealing with Memory loss. Click Here To Read The Article
Thanks Gail for helping us raise awareness and give hope to those in need!
In celebration of the holiday season, we at J. Arthur’s Memory Café in Roseville, Minnesota felt it was only right to show our appreciation to the UK Memory Cafés for so graciously sharing their Memory Café Concept with us.
We are filled with Gratitude!
Although many of our members were not able to join us due to busy holiday schedule, others gladly came out to show their support in our silly but very sincere video to the UK.
We encourage you to make you own version supporting the Memory Cafes and send it to us. Let’s see how many versions we can collect while raising awareness at the same time!
Saint Paul, Minn., July 09, 2011 – AlzheimersSpeaks.com, a leading provider of education and support for Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers, ACR Healthcare Group, The Alzheimer’s Research Center, The Minnesota Memory Project, and The Center for Dementia and Alzheimer’s Care of Health Partners, today jointly announced the opening of the United States’ first “Memory Café.” The Café will give Alzheimer’s patients and their personal caregivers the opportunity to meet and provide mutual social support to one another. To launch the Café, the group has arranged two open houses for the public which are free of charge.
Lori La Bey, founder of AlzheimersSpeaks.com, has dealt with memory loss through her mother’s thirty year journey with dementia. “When my mother was first diagnosed with memory loss years ago it was nearly impossible for me to find information about the disease or caregiving. We need to create community through unity and give care to those dealing with Alzheimer’s. We need to do it now because there is no time to wait for a cure. The numbers are rising and the needs of patients and caregivers are sky rocketing.”
J. Arthur’s Memory Cafe announces Opening in U.S. on Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio Today
Well I have to admit, doing the radio show is HUMBLING and testing my patience to say the least, but hey that’s life. There is a lesson at every corner and it is not going to stop just because I’m doing something more public than usual. LOL
So in full disclosure the show didn’t smooth in the beginning due to technical difficulties. If you want a laugh consider listening to the beginning. It’s our blooper spot! If you don’t want to listen to the mad scramble behind the scenes just move arrow to about the 7 minute mark and the show rolls on from there. We are trying to edit the program but in the mean time here is the show. The show has now been edited so you can listen from the beginning just keep in mind our normal introduction is not intact. Just like real life you can plan all you want, but sometimes there are a few detours on route… mine are usually technical road bumps…LOL
I think you will get good information even with the our goofy beginning.
